VHB Group is a close-knit family business with over 90 years’ experience in engineering, recycling and heavy machinery. Across our various companies, we have over 220 colleagues working at NRC, Aerinnova and Rock Solid UK. What we excel at: maximising the recovery of valuable metals from bottom ash. And we do this in a way that is innovative, efficient and sustainable. Think of 8 Eiffel Towers’ worth of iron, 120,000 kilometres of copper wire or 1.5 billion soft drink cans per year… that is the scale of the raw materials we recover annually.
Site Development Project Manager – Europe
- Brakel
- NRC
Set up new recycling sites across Europe, from greenfield sites to fully operational facilities.
Job description
Help shape the future of recycling in Europe.
At NRC, we develop recycling sites where we recover valuable metals from bottom ash. As we expand in the United Kingdom and other European countries, new sites are emerging that need to be built from the ground up. That’s where you come in.
You will be responsible for the entire development of our recycling sites across Europe. From a blank plot of land to a fully operational site: you will ensure that everything is properly planned, built and handed over. You will work independently, be given a great deal of freedom and play a direct role in NRC’s continued international growth.
As soon as a new site is acquired, you take charge of the project. You’re responsible for the entire development process and ensure that all disciplines work together. You liaise with engineers, contractors, planning authorities, consultants and internal stakeholders to successfully deliver projects.
No two days are the same. One day you might be discussing technical designs with our engineering department; the next, you could be in the UK meeting with contractors or consultants to discuss progress, scheduling and contractual agreements.
What will you be doing?
Overseeing the entire development of new recycling sites across Europe
Co-ordinating civil engineering works such as site layout, foundations, surfacing and weighbridges
Selecting, contracting and managing local contractors and external consultants
Overseeing planning permission processes and monitoring project risks
Drawing up and monitoring project schedules, budgets and investment proposals
Linking engineering, operations and external parties to ensure the successful delivery of projects
Regularly visiting project sites in the United Kingdom and other European countries
What makes your work challenging?
You’ll have a great deal of freedom, responsibility and ownership
A key role in NRC’s international growth
You’ll work closely with the board and management.
You’ll travel extensively within Europe to our international project sites.
What do we offer you?
At NRC, you’ll have the opportunity to literally help build our organisation’s continued growth in Europe. You’ll be joining an entrepreneurial family business where initiative is valued and where you’ll be given plenty of scope to successfully deliver projects in your own way.
You can count on:
A competitive salary paid every 4 weeks based on 40 hours
A permanent contract after one year – subject to good performance
Full arrangement of tickets, accommodations, and transport so you can focus on your work
You will receive a laptop, phone, and company car
26 vacation days and 8.33% holiday allowance
2/3 of your pension is paid by NRC, via pension fund BPL
Do you want to develop yourself further? Then make use of the NRC Academy
What do we expect from you?
What are we looking for?
You are someone who takes responsibility and enjoys leading projects from start to finish. You maintain a broad overview, think ahead and know how to reconcile different interests. You feel at home in an international environment and are happy to travel regularly.
You also have:
A completed higher professional education (HBO) or university (WO) degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Civil Engineering and Public Works (GWW) or a comparable field
At least 5 years’ experience as a project manager within infrastructure, construction, industry or a comparable technical environment
Experience in managing external parties such as contractors, consultants and suppliers
Strong organisational and communication skills
A good command of Dutch and English
A willingness to travel regularly within Europe
Knowledge of German is an advantage
Here’s what the application process looks like.
An initial telephone interview with Merel or a colleague. We’ll see if we’re a good fit for each other.
The second interview is with the owner and the HR manager.
The third interview is with the CFO and the director of site development.
You’ll receive an offer and the terms of employment.

WORKING AT VHB GROUP
At NRC, you’ll work at large international recycling plants across Europe. At Aerinnova in Gameren and Brakel, you’ll work alongside colleagues to further process and sort metals. No two days are the same, and there’s always work to be done. In our workshop, we’re working on the plants of tomorrow; this is where we design, build and maintain our recycling plants.
Whether you’re a machine operator, fitter, welder, team leader or project manager: at VHB, you’ll have the opportunity to progress. For example, towards a role as a team leader, specialist or manager, but also into other positions within NRC, Aerinnova or Rock Solid.
We’re a down-to-earth company where people work hard, but where colleagues can also count on one another. Large machines, international projects and a team that pulls together. That’s what working at VHB is all about.
