Field Service Engineer Europe

Job description

Tinkering, travelling and making a real difference — that's what working at VHB Group is all about.

Are you a technician at heart? Do you enjoy tinkering with large, impressive machines such as cranes, shovels and recycling installations? Do you prefer working outdoors to being cooped up indoors? And would you like to explore Europe at the same time, with all the freedom the open road has to offer? Then we are looking for you.

For the VHB Group, we are looking for an independent, enthusiastic Field Service Engineer Europe who can provide assistance and support for NRC (https://www.nrc-nl.com/) projects.

What will you be doing?

As a Service Engineer, you will be our technical ambassador on site. You will be travelling throughout Europe, where you will maintain our self-built machines, resolve malfunctions and commission new systems. You will work closely with colleagues, but you will also have a great deal of independence and responsibility.

Your tasks at a glance:

  • Performing maintenance and troubleshooting on a wide range of installations throughout Europe;

  • Commissioning machines that we have designed and built ourselves;

  • Inspecting machines for wear and tear and taking preventive action;

  • Performing technical inspections of equipment and tools on site;

  • Maintaining active contact with installation managers, project managers and engineers;

  • Contributing ideas for technical improvements and innovations — your input counts;

  • Keeping records of work performed;

  • Participating in the on-call service (out-of-hours breakdown service).

You are responsible for your own planning and report directly to the Workshop Manager. You work closely with the Service Coordinator and colleagues at various locations in the United Kingdom and abroad.

What do we offer you?

  • A fully equipped service van that allows you to travel comfortably throughout Europe;

  • Freedom and independence in your work — you are the expert on site;

  • The opportunity to work on machines that we design and build ourselves;

  • Room to contribute ideas about innovations and technical improvements;

  • Training and career opportunities through our own Academy;

  • Travel allowance and good expense scheme;

  • 26 days' holiday and a solid pension through the BPL Pension Fund;

  • A warm welcome to a friendly, down-to-earth team of real go-getters;

  • A dynamic job at an innovative and informal family business.

What do you bring?

You are good with your hands, have a passion for technology and a taste for adventure. You are independent, but also work well with colleagues on site. You see problems as challenges and have the drive to continuously improve in your profession.

  • You have completed technical training at a minimum of MBO level 3, preferably in vehicle technology, agricultural mechanisation or mechanical engineering. Do you have a different technical background? No problem. We will teach you the tricks of the trade!

  • You are eager to learn, solution-oriented and a good team player.

  • You are good at assessing and planning work.

  • You have a category B driving licence.

  • You are willing to work abroad frequently (several days a week).

  • You have good communication skills and speak Dutch well. Speaking English and/or German is an advantage.

WORKING AT VHB GROUP

VHB Group is a close-knit family business with over 90 years’ experience in engineering, recycling and heavy machinery. Across our various companies, we have over 220 colleagues working at NRC, Aerinnova and Rock Solid UK. What we excel at: maximising the recovery of valuable metals from bottom ash. And we do this in a way that is innovative, efficient and sustainable. Think of 8 Eiffel Towers’ worth of iron, 120,000 kilometres of copper wire or 1.5 billion soft drink cans per year… that is the scale of the raw materials we recover annually.

At NRC, you’ll work at large international recycling plants across Europe. At Aerinnova in Gameren and Brakel, you’ll work alongside colleagues to further process and sort metals. No two days are the same, and there’s always work to be done. In our workshop, we’re working on the plants of tomorrow; this is where we design, build and maintain our recycling plants.

Whether you’re a machine operator, fitter, welder, team leader or project manager: at VHB, you’ll have the opportunity to progress. For example, towards a role as a team leader, specialist or manager, but also into other positions within NRC, Aerinnova or Rock Solid.

We’re a down-to-earth company where people work hard, but where colleagues can also count on one another. Large machines, international projects and a team that pulls together. That’s what working at VHB is all about.
